John Deere has introduced two new marine engines: the JD14 and the JD18. These engines expand the range of solutions offered by the company for the marine sector, ensuring heavier duty cycles and a broader power range, from 298 to 599 kW (400 to 803 HP). Production is set to begin in 2026.
JD14: Compact and versatile power
The JD14 is a 13.6L, 6-cylinder marine engine with a power output ranging from 298 to 599 kW (400–803 HP). Ideal for vessels, pilot boats, workboats, and pleasure craft, the JD14 offers reduced dimensions compared to the previous John Deere 13.5L 6135SFM85, while maintaining high performance.
JD18: New opportunities for the commercial sector
With an 18L displacement and a power range of 410 to 599 kW (550–803 HP), the JD18 is designed for applications such as commercial fishing, vessels, and tugboats. It can deliver up to 522 kW (700 HP) of continuous power with M1 classification and up to 599 kW (803 HP) with M2 classification. Both the JD14 and JD18 will also be available in auxiliary configurations for variable or constant speed and for generator applications.
Designed to withstand maritime challenges
The JD14 and JD18 engines are the result of John Deere’s Next Generation Engine industrial architecture, which places the customer at the center of the design process. Customers who choose these engines can rely on innovative features such as:
- High-pressure common-rail (HPCR) injection system: designed to optimize fuel consumption and improve operational efficiency.
- Rear gear train: provides up to two power take-offs (PTOs) to drive auxiliary devices.
- Overhead camshaft design with hydraulic valve lash adjusters: eliminates the need for valve lash maintenance and improves valve operation.
- Extended duty cycle durability and maintenance intervals of up to 500 hours: ensures greater operational time on the water.
Both engines comply with IMO Tier 2, EPA Tier 3, and EU RCD II standards. They are also compatible with renewable fuels and biodiesel blends.
John Deere marine engines are valued for their reliability, ease of maintenance, and ability to handle extreme conditions.
